How this search decides what comes first

How search on this page ranks a match What you type is compared with titles, topics, subjects, tags, captions and names. Within any one of those, exact text scores highest, then text that begins with your words, then a whole word match or a word that starts with yours, then your text buried inside a longer word, which only counts when you type four letters or more. A match in a title counts for more than the same match in a caption. The highest score comes first, likes only settle a tie between videos, and popularity never outranks a closer match. Example: math finds the Math subject. YOU TYPE A word or two STRONGEST MATCH Exactly those words a title, topic, subject or name THEN Begins with those words THEN A whole word matches or a word that starts with yours WEAKEST Buried in a longer word only when you type 4+ letters THE ORDER Closest match comes first likes only settle a tie between videos NEVER Popularity over a closer match Example: math finds Math
DrawnSearch starts from the words you typed. Short names such as math, bio or cs point to the subject or topic they stand for, and a match in a title counts for more than one in a caption. Each typed word that matches adds to the score, so with three or more words, whole-word matches can come ahead of a title that begins with them. This is the matching that runs on this page, over a sample library. It reads words, not meaning, so a question phrased differently from a title can miss.
